BBC Sounds - Jarvis Cocker

'An amazing animation!' - Nick Grimshaw, BBC 6 Music

Animating Jarvis Cocker in stop motion… now that’s a brief!

When the lovely team at BBC Sounds got back in touch with the brilliant idea of adding Jarvis Cocker to our previous brand film, Joseph Wallace and I quickly got the band back together, this time with the addition of stop-motion animation royalty Kim Keukeleire to bring our philosophical indie-pop legend to life.

The production was designed, prepped and built in several weeks and animated, edited, composited, graded and mixed in 5 days. It was up on the Friday and by the end of the weekend had a million plus views across the BBC platforms and was featured on the News app and Homepage.

The craft, care, artistry and precision that goes into creating a stop motion world and performance always baffles me. Congrats to the whole crew - puppet, set and prop makers, camera, sound and post - on another gorgeous piece and as Guillermo Del Toro always says… F*CK AI!
